Meinong is a captivating Hakka village located on the outskirts of Kaohsiung city that makes for an interesting place to break up the journey between Kaohsiung and Tainan. The area is home to aboriginal villages famous for local traditional craftwork, such as oil paper umbrellas. There are numerous walking trails in the area that are home to some interesting wildlife, including the Formosan Macaque and the Taiwan Blue Magpie. Stays here tend to be in small, family run guesthouses and inns offering a very different experience to the country’s exhilarating cities.
